Original review updated Aug 16, 2025

Went to Lutheran Hospital ER around 4pm because of stroke symptoms after several hours was taken to for floor for observation and the nightmare began.. nurse who was assigned to me rushed to put me in the bed and made comments how she didn't want to try and help me to bathroom because she was by herself so put me on a bedpan and left me sitting on it for almost an hour until some male walked in & I asked if nurse could get me finally off instead this male took me off & cleaned me leaving me embarrassed & demeaned when I said I felt demeaned the nurse assigned to me came storming into my room snapping and yelling at me how she wasn't going to lose her license for someone like me & how no one has died in the 36 years she worked there-she came in my room at last once more that I remember snapping angrily about things by the time she stopped coming in it was almost 2amafter that I was woken up shortly after and continually every few hours by staff wanting vitals & blood by 6am they had me awake again I was told they would bring something so I could at least wipe myself down and telling me to eat (eat some nasty food I could not smell it barely taste which I told them but they didnt care so by then I hadn't had anything to even eat since before I gone to ERI also had not had any of my prescribed pain medication I take at home since before I had gone to their er because they said their pharmacy didn't carry what I took nor had I been given any of the anxiety or adhd medication that I regularly take & needed..

between 6-12 speech, occupational, & physical therapy had come in followed by the neurologist & and general floor doctor shortly after 12 the floor doctor had called medication for b12, baby aspirin, and cholesterol into a local pharmacy and had begun to discharge mearound 1 I still hadnt been given anything to wipe myself down with so I could feel a little clean (not even a toothbrush to brush my teeth) so I started saying I just wanted to go home since I was just laying in a bed and it was obvious they didnt care and were discharging me anyway since I received notice by the local pharmacy on my phone they had gotten the prescription order by the discharging physician around 2 and it was ready for pick up as I continued to lay in the bed a nurse came in saying she was there to do some test on my heart and when I asked why when I was being discharged and asked when the test had been ordered she ended up walking out and the afternoon floor nurse assigned to me told the nurse who came to take me to do the test that I didn't want the test because I was being discharged (which I never said I would not do only that I wanted to know what the test was and why would a test that was for my heart was so important to be done was not only being done after the doctor & nurses had already started discharge) when the floor nurse assigned to me came into my room I told her directly I hadnt said I wouldnt do the test but wanted to know what it was and why it was being done after discharge has started and wanted to know when the order for the test had even been placed only to be told orders could be placed days earlier but refused to answer the question directly

the nurse who was supposed to do the test while walking past my room shortly after this ended up telling me it had been ordered while I had still been in the ER the day beforewhich made everything very confusing when if the test was ordered the day before that it had taken them almost 24 hours to finally show up to do it and only after they were waiting for the discharge paperwork from the floor doctor

Long story short floor nurse stuck me with heparin in my stomach, and because I was still trying to understand what the test was that had been ordered the day before so it could be done if important, another nurse came in who I assume was the floor supervisor but do not know because she never said who she was, didnt any of my questions and walked out muttering something I cant remember the next thing I know the floor nurse had called security telling them I had mental health issues and history, I was discharged and had to go the floor doctor who discharged me was called and said the heart ultrasound ordered the day before by the neurologist was not important, and I was then told by security to leave even though I said I was invoking my right under Medicare to appeal discharge since they know I still had right sided weakness & facial droopthey said they didnt care and I needed to leave

So trying to bare weight on my good side I walked out but stopped at the front desk to ask the receptionist if I could speak to someone above the house manager before I left the building. While waiting quietly & patiently at the receptionist desk a female security officer showed up and told me to leave because she had seen me stop at the reception desk on her monitorthe security officer who had been called upstairs while I was still in my room came down and told me if I didnt leave the grounds theyd call local police to have me assisted for trespassing so with both security officers following me I walked out barring as much weight on my good side as I could to get to my car and drive home despite knowing it was unsafe

I will never go near another hospital again I would rather die after this

Cons:
  • Uses security to throw patients out who questions their discharge
  • Discharge patients still experiencing symptoms
  • Poor staff

User's recommendation: If you just say nothing and let them treat you like garbage and push you out the door even if you are still experiencing symptoms by all means go to Lutheran Hospital otherwise just stay home and hope your won’t die first.

I was recently in the Lutheran hospital

AI Highlights
  • - Nurses were great, but one blood-drawing tech was not kind.
  • - Dietary service is poor; meals are ice cold and arrive after 7:00 pm.

My nurses were great, I had one tech drawing blood that was not very kind. My main complaint is with the dietary, the food coming out of there is not fit for anyone to eat.

It is ice cold every meal and at the times you get your meal is ridiculous.

It was always after 7:00 pm before dinner arrived and one night 8:30. They seriously need help!

Very disappointed

AI Highlights
  • - We are in ICU with a critically ill family member.
  • - They threaten to make us leave and say we cause mess.
  • - Our kids need family; a father may not live.

We have been in ICU with a family member who is in very critical condition. They have done nothing but complain about my family.

Threatening to make us leave. Complaining that we are leaving messes when we clean up all the time. They hardly come in to clean and take trash out till we say something. Yet we are the problem.

We have kids that have a father who may not live and they need family. Instead they complain.

Make a family room then. Kids cant help but to be kids.

No compassion

AI Highlights
  • - Family member is in critical condition.
  • - No pillows or personal blankets for overnight stays.
  • - Waiting area was dirty; trash overflowing; no toilet paper.

We have a family memeber that is in crtical condition. The was a young man who had children.

Apparently, no children are allowed, no pillow, no personal blackets for overnight stays. Had the sheriff with the dog come up to tell us that we could not being anything personal up and we need to clean waiting area. Trash overflowing, no toilet paper.

This is a very unprofessional and non personable hospital. We are transferring our loved one to Parkview.

User's recommendation: Go to a different hospital with more compassion

Bad experience for me and my mother

AI Highlights
  • - Nurses on phones; they didn't check mom.
  • - Left mom in ER 10 hours, no infection care, I was disrespected by nurses.
  • - Housekeeping and sanitation were bad.

My mom was admitted and the nurses were preoccupied and always on the phones; they never came and checked on her at all. When I voiced my concern, they became snippy with me and they did not respond to any of the patients that were next to us.

They left my mom in the ER for 10 hours and with my mom's bad lungs, they did not give her anything to fight off any infection that was in the hospital. Now she is sick from their lack of care and their housekeeping is awful. They didn't know how to wipe down anything to sanitize it, they didn't sweep, and they used the same mop as the bathroom.

It was overall a bad experience there, I was disrespected by so many nurses. The only ones that were okay were the physicians that came early in the morning.

Preferred solution: I want everyone to no what they did

User's recommendation: Don’t go to the one down town

  • - I was denied access to the hospital and to my fiancee and couldn't talk to him on the phone.
  • - They said it was for calling four times.

I was denied access to the hospital and to my fiancee and wasn't allowed to talk to him on the phone. They lied.

They said it was because I called 4 times in a row to talk to him. Then they said I wasn't allowed in the building anymore.

If that was the case then why didn't they stop me the last time I was there. Do not put your loved ones there at lutgeran hospital in ft wayne indiana

Amazing experience

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
AI Highlights
  • - Care from ER to floor was excellent.
  • - Sam in ER was sweet and Jill pushed for NPO clarity.
  • - MRI team and staff were kind and put me at ease.

I was queen for a day. I was treated excellently from ER through my time on the patient floor.

Sam in ER was sweet and attentive; he took good care of me. The nurse put a sign on my saline that read 'Lin's wine,' which made me laugh. Jill, on the 2A ward, reached out to gastro and hospitalists to push for the removal of my NPO, or at least have explanations as to why and for how long. The hospitalist was amazing; she came back to see me three times to ask additional questions.

The room and the people who came in and out couldn't have been kinder. As it was a weekend, I was shocked that everyone had a smile and there were no long faces. My team found me without being told, which was a good feeling. I almost went elsewhere, but I am so glad I didn't and will use this facility again.

Oh, and the MRI team was on point and put me at ease. Thanks, Lutheran.

I was not give water or my meds

AI Highlights
  • - Sent to telemetry after ablation due to groin bleeding.
  • - Water and meds were restricted; requests delayed.
  • - Security was called; staff tried to fix issues.

I was sent to telemetry after an ablation because my bleeding did not stop on my groin area. I was drinking water and eating down stairs at the heart pavilion after my procedure but for some reason when I asked for water two hours later I was told my orders said I wasnt supposed to get any: I also asked for my medications for my heart which I was supposed to get after a cardiac procedure and they said to wait for the doctor to come in the morning.

I let a couple of cuss words slip and the nurse called security.

They actually listened to me and tried to get the situation rectified. It wasnt btw no one did anything and in a hospital bed with the door closed and the ripped curtins. This pace was disgusting the equipment doesnt work and place it falling apart dont go here if you value your life

Unprofessional

AI Highlights
  • - Order not found at check-in; later located.
  • - Registration blocked by name mismatch: Rich vs Richard.
  • - Process had to restart and require re-registration.

Walked in to do ekc and blood work for upcoming surgery. Upon check in the information desk says he can't find the orders, looks again and find it.

We sit in the waiting room for 45 minutes. The Karen on the power trip in registration booth #4 says she can't register him because the order says Rich not Richard as is on his driver's license. Says we have to call the Dr who sent the ordered the tests. It's not 12:10 and they are at lunch till 1.

Wait in the parking lot for 50 minutes. Call little miss know it all Michelle at the Drs office and of course it's not her fault. Wait another 15 minutes to prove it's not her fault before she finally send the order back over. Back to the hospital only to get told we have to start the whole process all over again with waiting in the waiting room for another hour.

Then wait get registered only to wait another hour before we finally get called back for the tests.

We have a schedule too but apparently no one cares about that. Thank you for wasting an entire day and not even so much as apologizing for any of this.

So don't go there. These people are trying to help. Stay home and wait for the Gates to open if you don't know how to act in public.
